6 Killer Marketing Tips That Won’t Break Your Bank

Marketing is important for all businesses, but even more for startups. Registering a business has never been so easier than this time and age. And it takes less than 15 minutes to register a business in South Africa. Provided that you already have a registered business name or your business will trade as a company registration number.

When you start a new business, the biggest challenge is to let potential clients know about your product or service. Marketing can be so expensive and it’s even worse for start-ups. So, if you own a startup, chances are you don’t have a big marketing budget. That’s a sad true story! Owch!

But the good news is, you don’t need to break the bank to promote your new business. There are plenty of inexpensive and effective marketing ideas. But they don’t just come from the sky. So, you need to think out-of-the-box and be innovative.

What you need to know about Marketing?

Building a brand is an ongoing process, and it’s not easy. It needs consistency and dedication. In most cases, you will have to work for free. Yes, no payment. And of course, you will have to work long hours. The question is, are you up for the challenge? If yes, so get the creative mindset from the beginning, and work smart. And you will reap the benefits in the future.

You need to have a business plan that has a marketing strategy. Don’t just add the marketing strategy but use it and re-visit it all the time. By doing so, you will see if you are still on the right track or not. Every business needs marketing in order to survive. If no marketing, there is no sale, which means your company will be in liquidation sooner than you think.

Consistency is key in marketing a business.

I always tell my clients that, marketing their businesses once won’t bring a flood of customers to them. In most cases, you don’t market your business today and expect to see results tomorrow. Promoting your company could take days, weeks, months or even years to work.

And my advice to you is, don’t ever give up. For as long as people keep seeing your advertisements, that means, you’re still doing great. Your brand should always be at the forefront and back of your potential clients’ heads. They can see your brand for the first time and ignore it. But seeing it often will make them notice that you exist and there must be something special about your brand.

Always remember

You are a start-up company with no track record and therefore no way for people to know whether they can trust you or not. So, you need to get your basics right in order to succeed in business. You do this by winning the customers’ trust. And if there’s no difference between you and your competition, there’s no reason why clients would be interested to work with you. Value proposition is what will differentiate you from others in your space and make up your clients’ minds that you’re the provider to go with.

Today, I’ll briefly talk about 6 Killer Marketing Tips that many entrepreneurs tend to ignore them.

6 Killer Marketing Tips that won’t break the bank

  1. Never promise what you can’t deliver.
  2. Know your business in and out
  3. Respect customers’ opinions
  4. Memorize your prices and deadlines
  5. Always strive to exceed customer expectations
  6. Don’t forget to thank customers for their support

Marketing is not always about spending money. It is about taking and maintaining your business.

1. Never promise what you can’t deliver.

Empty promises kill most of the start-up businesses. And it’s better to be open and honest about your products and services to clients than empty promises. If you cannot provide a certain service, say it straight away that you don’t provide such product or service. Always build trust and offer quality services to your clients. Clients trust what you say more than what you provide. So, make sure that what you say reflects what you offer because clients will trust you.

2. Know your business in and out

This is similar to the previous marketing idea. You’re the face of your brand. Be positive on what you say and tell as is. Clients will look at you and ask questions that would expose you. It’s their style, believe me. They want to know that you are not taking chances. They need value for their hard earned money.  It takes only 30 seconds to see if you really know your stuff or not. So, draw attention to your business by setting the right example.

3. Respect customers’ opinions

You need to respect and respond positively to customer complaints. It does not matter how small or big is the issue. But you need to attend it as soon as you can. Do you know that just one unhappy client could make you lose business? And I don’t talk about bad online reviews. People these days trust what other people say about each brand. They buy the product or service just because others recommend it. So, always be on the look out for what people say about your brand in order to grow your business.

4. Memorize your prices and deadlines

As simple as it may be but you need to memorize all your prices. When a client asks a price, you need to say it without hesitating. This shows that you know your business in and out. This is one of the things that clients tend to take note of when they want to purchase something.

One more thing is to keep promises by delivering in time when you have a deal with clients. Missing deadlines will give clients assurance that you are incompetent and lack time management skills. Clients don’t do business with someone who is not reliable. And they take business to somewhere else where their needs could be met.

5. Always strive to exceed customer expectations

This is simple and straight forward. Always be on your A GAME. Give clients what they didn’t expect. Give them extra value for their money. This is one of the marketing strategies that I do at Tera Zama Solutions. You’ll never go wrong with this one believe me.  Clients buy value. And to support my statement, I’d rather buy expensive items than to buy something that I would need to go and buy next month or year.

6. Don’t forget to thank customers for their support

One thing that I don’t forget is to appreciate clients for doing business with us at Tera Zama Solutions. My wife would argue at times that I don’t forget to appreciate clients whenever they process payments. My answer is always “Appreciate the little that you get because no one can do that as free gift. A “THANK” means a lot to many people including myself.

Conclusion
